Treatment is first big step in recovery, but it’s only the beginning. The first major challenge after treatment is making the transition back to daily life. Treatment provides quite a bit of structure, whether it’s inpatient treatment, a partial hospitalization program, or an intensive outpatient program. You spend many hours every week engaged in therapy and treatment-related activities. Making the transition back to regular life can be difficult. It’s one thing to to learn new skills and ways of thinking in a protected environment like group therapy and quite another to apply those lessons to a stressful day at work or an argument with a spouse. This is why aftercare is so important. It’s crucial patients feel supported even after leaving treatment. Developing a sober network outside the treatment community is one of the best predictors of a strong recovery, and building that community takes time. Having a lifeline to the people you relied on in treatment makes the transition much easier. At Recovery Ways, we’ve always understood that aftercare is a vital component of recovery. That’s why we’ve worked hard to make our aftercare services a strong bridge between treatment and a better life in recovery. We help you prepare the transition in advance by helping you plan your post-treatment activities and establish yourself in a mutual aid group such as a 12-step program, SMART Recovery, or Refuge Recovery. You will continue to have access to our staff for support and assistance. We also offer seminars and workshops for you and your family. Topics include relapse prevention techniques, lifestyle planning, pain management, and family renewal workshops. We host alumni events too, which include alumni retreats, service, activities, games, and more. These events allow you to keep in contact with your friends from treatment and broaden your sober network. Our newest expansion of aftercare aims to make follow-up care even more convenient through the use of video conferencing. You can now participate in group sessions online for six months. You will be able to interact with other from your treatment cohort via video conferencing. We encourage patients to participate in these sessions at least once a week. In these sessions, you will continue the group process and keep each other accountable as you all learn to readjust to normal life. These sessions start about two weeks after leaving treatment. For the first three months, sessions are led by a certified peer specialist, who then hands off to an alumni coordinator. We offer this virtual aftercare at no additional cost. This virtual aftercare is an additional option for making follow-up care easier to participate in while also helping to preserve your connections with the people you met in treatment. If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction or mental illness, we can help. Recovery Ways is a premier drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
