Bringing mental health treatment to those without a substance use disorder.
Our trauma-informed, clinically integrated treatment program has made us a trusted partner with patients, referents and payers for more than a decade. Due to the increased complexity of patients’ symptoms, we have created a specialized mental health program for those struggling with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other mood disorders. Recovery Ways’ Mental Health Primary program offers profound and comprehensive long-term support. A substance use disorder (SUD) is not required for admission to this program. The participants of our Mental Health Primary program will reside in the newly reopened Copper Hills facility. This facility provides patients with a safe, supported and peaceful setting free from the hustle and bustle of our main campus.

Treatment Modalities
Recovery Ways offers unique treatment modalities that are integrated with traditional evidence-based therapies. These include sensory integration in state-of- the-art sensory rooms, vocational and educational support, psychotherapy and alumni support. Many of these therapies are designed to support patients in regaining their sense of safety, security, connection, trust, collaboration and emotional regulation; in addition to utilizing peer support as an integral component of recovery. These therapies assist in healing historical events and provide patients with the foundational tools necessary for long-term success in managing their mental health concerns long after their experience at Recovery Ways.
Recovery Ways Campus
Located in the Salt Lake Valley, we often utilize the Wasatch Mountains to integrate experiential and recreational therapies to maximize the benefits of the outdoors. Patients’ experience in reconnecting with nature often helps them recognize their internal triggers. Through this connection, with therapeutic support, they learn how to successfully manage triggers in the workplace and at home. Clients engage in activities such as hiking, paddle boarding, low and high ropes, and trail rides on horseback as they begin their new lives of recovery.
FAQs
Can someone come to the program without a SUD?
Yes, absolutely. Information is collected from the patient, family and referent(s) to provide us with a comprehensive overview of how best to approach each patient’s care.
What is the program like?
The program considers all aspects of what is most important to each patient. This 360-degree holistic approach builds a strong foundation of community support and healing through evidenced-based modalities. One can expect to participate in individual and group therapies, as well as have focused time to process and work on their individual clinical goals.
What makes it different?
Many programs treat dual diagnosis patients and misunderstand the importance of treating mental health as a primary diagnosis. Although our program does not require a SUD diagnosis, there may be patients who have SUD as a secondary diagnosis. This program is specifically tailored to those whose substance use disorder is not presenting the greatest challenge or interruption in their daily lives. By dedicating Copper Hills to this program and this group of patients, we can ensure that their treatment plan is customized to meet their mental health needs.
Do you offer the full continuum of care? What does step-down care look like for Mental Health Primary (MHP) patients?
Yes, we offer a full continuum of care. Additionally, our MHP patients are welcome in our partial-hospitalization program (PHP). They will have full access to our alumni services to include a specific APP for their daily use.
What ages do you treat?
We work with adults ages 18 and older. We find that tremendous learning and growth occurs in our intergenerational, multicultural groups.
Do you specialize in any populations?
While culturally competent with many different populations or groups, our expertise shines most in working with safety-sensitive transportation industry employees and first responders.
