Salt Lake City is a beautiful location. We feel very lucky to have our addiction treatment centers located right in the heart of it. It opens up a lot of options for us to do rec therapy with our patients. However, anyone can enjoy these hikes near Salt Lake City.
Willow Lake
Willow Lake is an easy hike with incredible scenic views and an alpine lake. The marked trail will take you less than a mile up to the edge of Willow Lake. During your hike you might spot moose hanging out in the thick willows, so make sure to make noise to warn them that you’re coming through as to not startle them. When you reach the shoreline you’ll have a great view of Solitude Ski Resort.
Ensign Peak
Ensign Peak is what you want to hike when you want a gorgeous view of the Salt Lake Valley. You’ll also get incredible views of the Great Salt Lake, the Wasatch Mountains, and the Ochre Mountains. This hike is only one mile round trip, so anyone can accomplish it. If you go during the spring, be on the lookout for Evening Primrose blooming.
White Pine Lake
White Pine Lake isn’t for the beginner, but it’s also not terribly difficult. This hike is about ten miles round trip on the trail. While this hike makes for a great day hike, you can also backpack overnight. If you’ve got a furry friend it might be best to leave them at home for this hike. White Pine Lake is a watershed, so swimming and dogs are not allowed at the lake.
Albion Basin
An easy hike that no one will regret. This hike is located at the very top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. While the hike is only about a mile, it will leave an impression if you go during the right months. Albion Basin is most known for its beautiful wildflowers. You’ll see lupine, Indian paintbrush, American bistort, sunflowers, fireweed, and more. Definitely worth taking the time for this quick hike.
Lake Blanch
While this is not a difficult hike, it is a decent distance, at six miles round trip. So if you’re looking for more than a mile “walk” but aren’t looking to wake up sore the following day, this is the hike for you. If you’re a photographer who wants some beautiful scenery shots, or even want some amazing Instagram photos, this is the hike. As you hike to the lake, you’ll pass by waterfalls and flowing streams. Plus, if you’re looking for a camping spot, this location allows you to camp overnight. This is just a short snippet of the hikes available near Salt Lake City.
