Just because you are sober doesn’t mean you can’t have a social life. You can still go out and have fun, enjoy time with your friends, and make new ones. Being sober doesn’t mean you have to be a hermit with no life. In fact, going out and spending time with your friends and trying new activities will all aid in your recovery. You have a new take on life, your healthy and sober, it is time to enjoy your life to your full potential. The key is finding the right people to surround yourself with and sober activities that won’t inspire you to use again. Here are some ways to stay social in recovery.
Going to Meetings
Going to meetings can introduce you to like minded people who can understand what you are going through and the importance of sobriety. They can introduce you to some of the activities they do, some of the other sober people they know, and more. They can go to meetings with you and help you through things outside of meetings.
Sober Activities
There is a long list of sober activities you can do in recovery from things in doors to activities outside. The important thing to do is to find people who support you and your choice to be sober. They shouldn’t participate in substance use in front of you or put you in uncomfortable situations. If that means they are only hiking companions or snowboarding pals, then that is ok. There are also groups of sober people and their family and friends who participate in sports in the Salt Lake area. The Beehive Sports and Social Club gather to play sports and help raise money for charities. Check out all of the teams you can be a part of here. There is also a sober gym in Salt Lake City that helps builds a support system through exercise and outdoor activities. To learn more about the gym click here.

Social Media
There are many groups on Facebook and other social media platforms that offer a place for those in recovery to share their stories or stay in touch with other people who are also going through recovery. They are places that offer positive reinforcement that you can see daily and even be apart of and make new friends.
